History Department Chair | Peter Gallagher earned a bachelor’s degree with a double major in English and history from the University of Oregon and a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Portland. At Valley Catholic he teaches Junior U.S. History, Freshman Global Studies, and a new elective of his design, “Conflict Zones,” which studies Northern Ireland, Sri Lanka, Crimea, Palestine, Cyprus, the Basque region, Rwanda, Venezuela, Indonesia, and other conflict-stricken areas. At the University of Portland, Peter served as a summer tutor in many academic areas to prepare students entering high school and to address their parents’ concerns; at the University of Oregon he was a reading and writing associate, developing a tutoring program for writers struggling in English courses; he also worked four years at Camp Howard, is an avid backpacker, and assists in Valley Catholic’s outdoor program.
