Dear Families,

Happy Advent to all of you! For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this season, Advent (Latin for “coming”) began this past Sunday and it is the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year. Throughout Advent, we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birth. Advent is a wonderful season to focus on serving others.  Part of the preparation for the coming of Jesus at Christmas is reflecting on what it is that we do, individually, as families, and as the VCES community, that helps the poor and suffering.

This year, we have collaborated with Northwest Children’s Outreach to give back to our local community during Advent. Northwest Children’s Outreach is a faith-based, non-profit organization dedicated to helping families in the Portland area and surrounding communities, including Beaverton. There are many children in our area who are without necessities such as warm coats, hats, and gloves and whose families may not able to provide a holiday gift. VCES students and families will be collecting new or gently used winter clothing and new toys for children. We are excited to assist this organization in providing for children and families in our area this Advent season!

In Christ,

Melissa Doxtator
