Dear Parents,

This was a busy week as we continued to acclimate the students into the new school year. Valley Catholic Middle School’s Clubs are in full swing with over two-thirds of our students attending the first session of the various club options.

Tuesday evening was Back to School for the seventh and eighth grade families, since only sixth grade families attended Back to School in August.  Thank you to all the parents who joined us at one of the Back to School Nights.  We hope you enjoyed a glimpse into your child’s academic school-life.  It was wonderful to have the opportunity to share our program with you. We hope you found your child’s teachers to be approachable, friendly, well prepared and passionate about their subject matter.  For those who were unable to attend, please be sure to ask your student for their Powerschool Access code. This will enable you to check on assignments and overall scores in each class.

The seventh grade students spent Friday at Rockaway Beach as part of our annual Waves of Love service trip. Students spent time helping the elderly clean their yards, they also washed windows and fire trucks and completed other general tasks around town as needed.

After two hours of working, the students were able to spend an extended lunch hour on the beach – enjoying clear weather until the last ten minutes.  Unfortunately, our timing was off so most of us were soaked by the time the buses were loaded and the camp was broken down. I must say, as wet as they were, there were so many laughs and giggles that I do not think the rain dampened anyone’s spirits.

I recently mentioned to seventh and eighth grade families that I am working on my doctorate with an emphasis in neuroeducation.  As part of my research, I am currently looking for articles, information, and research about Catholic school systems.  Particularly, Catholic Education Centers that act as a support hub for Catholic school Administrators and teachers, a place to learn about new advances in education, gain support with classroom needs, as well and a place where Catholic school teachers can form cohorts on shared ideas, grade-levels and interests.

We look forward to seeing you again soon at parent-teacher conferences in October. Information about registering for conferences will be sent home next week via email. The information will also be published in the October 4th edition of the VC Buzz and weekly parent email.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Gfroerer
