PARENT SERVICE HOURS
As part of the tuition structure at Valley Catholic Elementary School, parents support the school through service. Families fulfill their service obligation – 20 hours per family – in a variety of ways. Here are just some of the many ways that parents support the school:
- Serving as an officer, representative, or chair for our parent group, the VCES VALOR Network
- Volunteering as your child’s classroom room parent
- Helping with the Jog-a-thon
- Helping with the Halloween Carnival and Haunted House
- Assisting teachers in their classrooms
- Working on the annual school auction
- Helping with classroom parties
- Volunteering in the school library
- Hosting a foreign-exchange student
For a complete list of opportunities and to express interest in serving, please log on to the service hour website following the directions available below. Please know that in order for your service to count toward your service obligation, it must fit into one of the opportunities on the website. It must be service to the Elementary School. Service to the Middle School and High School – except for the few opportunities listed on the website – do not fulfill the Elementary School service obligation.
Parents may opt to pay a $500 fee to waive the service-hour commitment, and all families that fall short of the service-hour obligation are billed at a rate of $17 per hour. Please contact the school principal for questions about the service-hour commitment or to make the school aware of a change in two-parent or single-parent family status.

Our school uses a special service-hour registry called HelpCounter. This online website allows parents to see what opportunities are available for the school year and lets them express interest in select opportunities. Parents also use this online registry to log all of their hours. Our service-hour logging is paper-free. For directions on using HelpCounter, please click on the link above. Parents can also choose to log their hours while at school by checking in on the kiosk computer in the school office at the start of service and checking out of the system at the end of service.
