Letter from the VCS President
Posted 02/21/2013 04:32PM

Dear Valley Catholic School Community,

It has been an exciting week already at Valley Catholic—with more to come as we head into a very busy weekend.

Writing my VC View letter is one of the best parts of my job and something I look forward to each week.  As many of you are aware, this is the second letter I have put together this week. The first one came home in an email yesterday announcing the beginning of our iPad program at Valley Catholic.  For those that might have missed the email, I encourage you to check out the FAQ page on our website for additional information about adding this technology to our campus in the fall.

Re-enrollment information was mailed to our families yesterday. It is always interesting around campus this time of year as we straddle the line between all the events that are taking place during the second half of this year and all of the planning that goes into preparing for the next school year.  Thank you to all the families who will be getting those re-enrollment forms back to us in the coming days.  We truly value the opportunity to educate your child and look forward to continuing our educational relationship.

Speaking of next school year, I wanted to share some major dates of the 2013-2014 school year so that families can begin to make vacation plans.   The dates listed below are a few of the major calendar items for the school year.  As we fill out the rest of our school calendar for next school year, the information will be shared with our parents.

  • The first day of school for the 2013-2014 school year will be Tuesday, Sept. 3;
  • Christmas Break will be from Dec. 23, 2013 through Jan. 3, 2014, and
  • Spring Break for the 2013-2014 school year will be March 24-28, 2014.

Good luck to all of the participants in this weekend’s annual Middle School Speech Tournament. This event is one of the highlights of our campus each year as more than 400 students from all over the area come to our campus to show off their public speaking skills. I want to send out a special thanks to Principal Gfroerer and all of the staff, parent/student volunteers, and judges who come together to pull off this significant event. We are excited to welcome back Reggie Aqui from KGW to emcee the awards portion of the event.

I also want to congratulate our boys and girls varsity basketball teams on their tremendous seasons to this point. Both the boys and girls teams captured the regular season title in the Lewis & Clark League and both are hosting first round games in the OSAA 3A State Basketball tournament this weekend. The boys, currently ranked second in the state power rankings, host Burns on Friday night while the girls, currently the number-one ranked team in the state power rankings, will face off with Westside Christian on Saturday night in the Valiants Gym. A win this weekend will send each team to Coos Bay next week for the Final 8 of the tournament.  Go Valiants!!

Valley Catholic is an exceptionally well-balanced school with strong programs in academics, athletics and the arts. We were reminded of that this week when senior Yamini Naidu was named a national Coca-Cola Scholarship Finalist and our Charisma Dance Team was honored for having the highest team GPA of all of the dance-drill teams in the state for winter 2013.

All-around excellence. That’s Valley Catholic. That’s Valiant.

Respectfully,

Bob Weber
President
