On March 14, VCES third-grader Roshen left the 2015 Oregon State Chess Championship at the Oregon Convention Center clutching the second-place trophy and wearing a medal around his neck. He competed in the elementary division.

On Wednesday, March 18, 22 juniors and seniors from Ms. Lacks' AP Biology class went on a field trip to St. Vincent's Hospital as part of the Ortho Watch program, an outreach to high school students in the Portland interested in biology and the medical profession.

Junior Jessi Beyer was presented with an engraved Distinguished Finalist medallion to commemorate the prestigious Prudential Spirit of Community award. She also received the President's Volunteer Service Award from the White House.

On Tuesday, March 17, we encourage all students to show their St. Patrick's Day spirit. To participate in this special dress day, each student should have clothing that is at least half green.

Seventh-grade students at Valley Catholic Middle School expressed their individuality Thursday, March 12, on "Stargirl Dress Day." The theme was in celebration of Stargirl, the title character in a book the students recently read in English class.

On Monday, March 16, eighth-grade students will begin to develop the Good Friday prayer service A Walk with Jesus, using the time outside to help experience Jesus in nature.
