VCHS: Update from VCHS Athletic Director, Sept. 24

Football – First home game on Saturday, Sept. 25
Valley Catholic has opened their fourth season of football with some tough games. The Valiants were on the road for the first three weeks, all resulting in losses. However, VC showed great improvement at Horizon Christian (9-17) last week. Behind second half touchdowns from Ryan Foote and Anthony Wallace the Valiants turned a 17-0 halftime deficit into a 17-14 game. A late touchdown from Horizon provided for the 23-14 final score. VC will continue their tough non-conference schedule when they host Sheridan on September 25. Sheridan is already 2-0 on the year and one of the favorites to win the West Valley Conference. The Valiants will finish with their non-conference schedule on Friday October 8th when they travel to last year’s 2A state finalist Kennedy.

Please join us for a free BBQ-style lunch at the Valley Catholic Kick-Off Classic before Saturday’s game.

VCHS: Ski Team News

While Valley does not have a formal ski team, students may register with the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association. Students may train privately or with another local high school, and race under the VCS banner up at Mount Hood this January and February. Last year, under this same arrangement, two VCS students qualified and competed in the State championship. It’s a lot of fun and does not require any previous racing experience.

If you have a student who is interested in being a part of the VCHS ski team and would like more information please contact Peggy O’Leary.

VCES & VCMS: CYO Swim Coaches Needed!

The CYO swim team need coaches! At this point we do not have enough coaches to offer practices every day. Have you ever considered coaching?? No experience is necessary. You will receive some training from the experienced, returning coaches and really what is needed, is someone to help encourage the kids and keep them moving and safe. We can work with your availability to design a schedule that works for you. Please consider this great opportunity. If you are interested or have questions, contact CYO Director Kelly Alfieri.

It’s an opportunity for our families to get together and get to know each other better. Grown-ups can eat and socialize, and the children can play together out in the playcourt. Please see this flyer. We do need to know how many people to plan for and we’re still looking for volunteers, so please return or e-mail the RSVP. Don’t miss this fun event!!!

VCES: Urgent Need for Recess Volunteers!

We really need more lunch recess volunteers! If you are willing and available to help our school staff monitor our students at recess between 11:05 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at any time during the school year, you will earn two hours of volunteer service for each time you help. This job is not glamorous, but it is so helpful to us and the students! You can sign up for one day a month, a whole week at a time, or any combination that fits your schedule. Even if you can come just one time will help! Please e-mail recess volunteer coordinator, Jennifer Boss to volunteer. She will set up the schedule, to begin in October.

Jennifer also has two playground volunteer trainings scheduled to choose from. The first one is this coming Friday morning, September 24, from 8:00-9:00 a.m. in the Hot Lunch Room, and Wednesday evening, September 29, 7:00-8:00, in the Hot Lunch Room. The training is intended mostly for new recess volunteers. Please remember that all volunteers must be current on Called to Protect trainings and criminal background checks.

VCMS: Touring Production Comes to the Middle School Oct. 7

VC Middle School students will enjoy a production from the touring group “Texting the Sun” Oct. 7. The program investigates the complex issue of Media Literacy, designed for grades 6, 7, and 8.

This relevant, thought-provoking production explores the challenges of navigating our media-saturated reality. Through the eyes of adolescents, “Texting the Sun” spotlights the dilemmas posed by the relentless barrage of media influences: news cycles, advertising campaigns, social sites, video games, cell phones, and instant messaging. How are they to know what is real or unreal? Fact or fiction?
