Samples of these portraits of K-8 are also displayed in the elementary/middle school building.

The portraits have been taken by professional photographer and parent Lois O’Halloran and finished in either black & white or sepia tone. These framed 8″ x 10″ portraits will feature a mat signed by all the children and their teacher.

Please download this order form and submit it with your check made out to “Valley Catholic Auction” for $125 per portrait. Order forms are also located in the elementary/middle school. Please return your order to the school or auction office by Wednesday, April 25th.

Each year the auction committee asks each high school family to contribute cash to help cover the cost of two vacation packages. Auction guests will have the chance to bid on these vacations at the Auction on April 14. (In the lower grades, families contribute to themed baskets and class projects.)

The class with the highest participation will be treated to hot cocoa and Krispy Kreme donuts and will receive spirit points. (Currently the freshman and sophomore classes are currently winning the competition, but not by much!) Turn in your HS Vacation Trip donations today, and the tables might turn.

HS Vacation Trips are a great way to help support our school through the auction. We encourage all families to participate in whatever way they can. Thank you for your participation.

We will be packaging all our donated items into baskets & creative containers.  They will be wrapped for presentation at the 2012 All That Jazz auction.  Bring your blow dryer & creativity.

In keeping with the auction theme, All That Jazz, we kicked off the raffle sales season in Mardi Gras—New Orleans style.  The high school student body officers helped excite all the students from pre-school through high school by preparing a video and wearing colorful masks (see the photo gallery below).  This year there are five prizes:

Here’s how to support our school by selling raffle tickets:

Use the order forms in the packet to begin selling raffle tickets.
Our goal is to have each family sell 10 raffle tickets.

Ticket Price: 1 for $10

For every 10 tickets sold, your family will receive a gift card from supporters like Jamba Juice, Buffalo Wild Wings, Peet’s Coffee & Tea and other great places!

PROCEDURE FOR SELLING TICKETS:

• Begin taking orders today.
• Purchaser fills out the bottom portion of raffle order form.
• Purchaser keeps the top portion of raffle order form.
• Seller (student) returns bottom portion of form and payment in an envelope labeled “Raffle” to any VCS office.
• Additional forms are available at http://auction.valleycatholic.org.
• Please have all raffle ticket order forms returned to the school by April 13, 2012.

If you have any questions, please email Sharla Tinsen or call 503.718.6485.  A receipt with ticket numbers will be mailed to the purchaser within 10 business days of receiving the raffle ticket order and payment. Drawing will take place at the 2012 Auction on April 14, 2012. Winner does not need to be present to win. Families will receive their gift cards shortly after auction night.

The auction committee celebrated their kick-off at an early morning party Tuesday in the Elementary School cafeteria.  Auction and Events Coordinator Sharla Tinsen moderated the event, and speakers included VCS President Bob Weber, SSMO Ministries President Sr. Adele Marie Altenhofen, SSMO Foundation Development Director Sharlayne Buuck, Auction Co-Chair Kathy Debnath and auctioneer JillMarie Wiles.  The committee members were introduced and given many thanks for their hard work.  The auctioneer, JillMarie Wiles, got right to work by auctioning off a night at the Embassy Suites Hotel at Washington Square, and in the process gave a lesson in auctioneering to a volunteer who came onto the stage with her.  Three door prizes were also drawn.

The committee stayed true to its Mardi Gras theme, All That Jazz, in both decor and cuisine.  In addition to colorful beads, masks and decorations, a delicious home-baked king cake was served—a Mardi Gras tradition in New Orleans—complete with a hidden “bebe” inside.

All That Jazz on April 14, 2012 promises to be a night to remember when we gather as a community for the 2012 auction. As a guest, you will enjoy the ambience of New Orleans while being entertained by live jazz.

We are excited to announce that the 2012 auction venue will be the Embassy Suites – Washington Square. After researching our options, we determined that holding this year’s event at Embassy Suites is less costly overall than hosting the event in our gymnasiums. Embassy Suites understands our mission and is partnering with us to make this auction a great fundraiser for Valley Catholic School.

This year’s ticket price will be adjusted to reflect the cost savings we anticipate by holding the auction at the Embassy Suites. Tickets will be $65 apiece—a savings of $20 per couple—and will go on sale in February. If you have not attended our auction in the past, we hope you will join us this year. It is a powerful experience to be in a room with hundreds of people who believe in the mission of Valley Catholic School.

This is your auction! It benefits your children and every family with students in our PreK-12th grades. The funds raised keep tuition affordable and enhance the experience each child receives as a student at Valley Catholic.

There are endless ways you can become involved this year. A handful of volunteers have been working this fall and planning is in full swing, but we need more people to help. There’s a job for everyone who wants one! For Elementary School families, the hours spent volunteering for the auction count toward your required volunteer hours. We invite you to join us for the official kick off on Jan. 24 in the Elementary & Middle School Cafeteria at 8 a.m.

The auction is truly a celebration of all that we value about Valley Catholic School. The generosity of guests who attend the auction has created a tradition for which to be proud. We can’t wait to see what All That Jazz has in store for us in 2012!

I am married and have two children. My youngest daughter is in fourth grade at VCES, and my son is a freshman in high school. I am a senior engineering manager at Intel. I value the quality education students receive at Valley Catholic School. I know the funds generated at the auction play an important role in enhancing the experience our children receive while they are students here.

With that in mind, will you consider joining me to co-chair this event? An event of this magnitude requires many volunteers, which is why all parents are encouraged to get involved.  If you cannot volunteer as a co-chair, I hope you will join me in volunteering. With your help, I know this event will be a success. The auction,”All That Jazz,” will be held on April 14, and promises to be a festive night with a Mardi Gras flavor.
