Countdown to the Olympics: Mariel Zagunis ’03 Focuses on the Gold
Submitted by Alumni Relations Assistant Grace Le Chevallier and Communications Specialist Danielle Tomich
Olympian Mariel Zagunis ’03 is focusing on staying healthy while she trains and competes on the international level for the next seven months. Right now she is gearing up for her first World Cup of the season, which will be held in France the second week of February. After that, it’s more hard training: Mariel, who already has two gold medals under her belt, will compete in the London Olympics this summer.
Mariel is featured on the front cover of “Fencing,” a coffee table book just released featuring black and white pictures and bios of the world’s best fencers from the past decade. The photos were taken by Serge Timacheff, official photographer for the International Fencing Federation. The book can be ordered here. Mariel will also be featured on a commercial through her sponsor TD Ameritrade.
Mariel returned to the SSMO campus after winning Olympic gold in 2004 and 2008; we hope to welcome her back again to show off her third gold medal.
