Valiants Shine in State Athletics

Submitted by VCHS Principal Ross Thomas

A grand end to fall: one of our teams realized the dream of every team, and another is in the Final Eight:

Our boys’ cross-country team won the third boys’ State Championship in school history last Saturday in Eugene, 33 points ahead of runner-up Pleasant Hill. The team had been 2nd at State last year, returned everyone, and dedicated themselves to year-round training, thoroughly earning an accomplishment they’ll never forget. (They also ended up one of the top teams in the state at any level: we were faster than all 4A schools in the state except three, faster than all 5A schools but seven, and all 6A schools but nine. We were, that is, the 20th fastest team among the state’s 290 schools. )

Our volleyball team, ranked #2 in the state, beat St. Mary’s Medford in the 1st Round of State Saturday night to advance to the Final Eight in Eugene. We open against Blanchet in the quarterfinal at 3:15 Friday afternoon. If we win, we play the winner of the Burns-Cascade Christian match in the semi-finals at 8:30 Friday evening.
