VCHS track coach Tommy Manning was named the 3A-1 Lewis and Clark league Track Coach of the Year, it was announced during their district meets. The announcement resulted in a strong showing at the state competition last week, and he said the award was determined by votes from coaches around the league. He said each of the coaches voted for him, but that he feels it was a group effort that yielded the honor.

“The way we’ve structured our team, we have a field and a track coach,” he said. “They brought me in to help out a bit, and I was a track guy in college.”

He said the votes were a likely response to the strong season that the track runners and field event athletes displayed throughout the season, which he said is the result of the determination of the student-athletes and a combined effort from each of the coaches.

“When I heard about it, I was happy, but I feel this is s a shared effort,” Manning said. “I feel honored and thought the award reflected on the entire coaching staff, and everyone here works hard and does a great job. It’s a great group of kids, and they make the coaches look good.”
