In September 2008, Modesta Vanderzanden joined the VCELS staff and brought over 20 years of experience in early childhood care and education. As the Sunflower Lead Teacher, Modesta works with her Pre-K students to help them on their journey of being lifelong learners beginning with Kindergarten!

Some might be surprised to learn that Modesta and her husband love to ride their Harleys and enjoy road trips together. She also loves spending time with their children and grandchildren.

Modesta is a friendly and caring teacher and the children thrive in her classroom. A self-described “Speedy Gonzales,” you’ll be hard pressed to find her sitting down. She and the children love running laps around the playground.

We look forward to many more years of her dedication to the Sunflower children!
