High School Athletics Overview

ValiantThe High School fields OSAA teams (almost always at least a varsity and JV team, often a JVII squad also) in volleyball, cross-country, soccer, football, basketball, swimming, dance, baseball, softball, tennis, golf, and track and field. Although Valley teams are among the strongest in the state, no one is ever cut from a Valley Catholic athletic program. This does not mean, of course, that every athlete will play for a varsity team. It does mean that everyone can play for the school for four years. It also means that everyone will have a four-year try-out and a four-year chance to improve toward the varsity level... not a try-out of only a few days as a freshman and then be cut or relegated to a C team with little or no chance of moving into the main program.

Because no one is cut, CYO does not exist at Valley Catholic High School.  All Valley Catholic athletes play for official, OSAA Valley Catholic teams.  There is, therefore, no need for an auxiliary athletic program.

In 2009-2010, Valley Catholic enjoyed another successful athletic campaign. The school claimed league championships in volleyball, girls basketball, boys swimming, softball, girls track and baseball. In addition, the Valiants enjoyed success on the state level with individual champions in both girls golf and girls tennis as well as many strong team performances. VC teams earned the following state trophies in volleyball (3rd), boys golf (3rd), girls tennis (2nd), baseball (2nd) and dance (state champions). The baseball program made history by reaching the state finals for the first time.

After winning the award for top overall 3A sports program in 2008-2009 from the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association (OACA), VC finished recognized as the second most successful 3A program in the state in 2009-2010.

In the 2010-2011 school year, the Valiants will leave the West Valley League and join the Lewis & Clark League. Over the past four years, Valiant teams combined to win the most league titles in the West Valley League. The Valiants will look forward to competing against new teams in the Lewis & Clark League and continuing their athletic success in 2010-2011.
