Yoko Miwa
Yoko Miwa was born in Gifu, Japan, graduated from Kansai-Gaidai University in Osaka, spending her senior year at Washington State University as an exchange student. She first came to Oregon as a volunteer Japanese teacher at Central High School in 1992. After spending a year back in Japan, Yoko returned to Oregon to earn a second bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Education at Portland State University. Yoko has been at Valley since 1999; she currently teaches Japanese I-V. In 2008 her students won 1st and 2nd in the Grade 6 through 8 category and 1st in grade 9 through 12 category at the Oregon Japanese Speech Contest and have won 1st place in at least one category every one of the last few years. Yoko’s hobbies are learning Korean, Japanese calligraphy and illustrating.
