Sofia Zalmanova

Sofia ZalmanovaSofia Zalmanova was born in Ukraine, in a town called Vinnitsa. She loved music from her early childhood, and she got her first formal music education in a school of music, where she studied for seven years. Soon after, she was admitted into the Vinnitsa College of Music where she spent four years mastering her skills; she graduated with a diploma of music teacher and concertmaster. In a few years Sofia entered Moscow University of Music, where she graduated with a bachelor’s of arts in music. Her teacher and mentor was the famous pianist, composer and educator Boris Petcherskiy. After graduating she returned to her home town, working at a local school of music as a piano teacher. In 1992 Sofia and her family moved to Portland, and after a short period of adjustment to American life she started teaching. Soon after she was hired as an accompanist at Oregon Ballet Theater School and Portland Festival Ballet (where she still provides accompaniment). She is a member of Oregon Music Teachers Association (OMTA). Sofia has worked at Valley Catholic Music School since 2000. She loves children and she finds her job very rewarding.
