Michael Seiwald
Michael Seiwald, who has been at Valley since 2002, currently teaches Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and AP Chemistry and serves as Chairman of the Science Department. Michael graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis with a B.S. in Chemistry and has an M.A. in Education from Marymount University. Michael, a retired Navy Commander, served on four nuclear submarines, taught at Naval Submarine Officers School, and was logistics manager for a major naval acquisition program. Each of these assignments involved daily practical use of chemistry (such as developing a mercury standard for the Navy). Following retirement from the Navy, Michael worked as a facilitator, senior engineer, and analyst developing technology, strategic, and business plans for city and federal agencies. He enjoys gardening, camping, and hiking.
