Marty Karlin has taught at Valley since 1981, primarily English in the High School. Her current duties include A.P. Junior English, English 9, and English Conversation for international students. Marty graduated from Hockaday School in Dallas, then earned a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Education, both from Stanford. Marty has taught courses from 2nd-grade P.E. to high-school driver education in schools from Springfield, MA, to Raleigh, NC. She sensibly waited until after Mt. St. Helen’s erupted to move to Oregon with her husband and their first child in 1981. She is also a part-time student at the Pacific Northwest College of Art, working towards a certificate in fine arts. Marty’s hobbies encompass family activities, artistic pursuits, reading broadly, and staying connected with friends.
