John Innes, who joined Valley Catholic in 2003, currently teaches sophomore English and junior/senior Creative Writing. John graduated from St. George’s School in Spokane, where he was a Merit Scholar and played soccer, basketball, and baseball. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College in New York, where he played two years of varsity golf and was WHCL’s voice of the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Before joining Valley’s faculty, John was a professional fly-fisherman in Sun Valley, Idaho and a guide and head instructor at Silver Creek Outfitters. He released a fly-fishing show on DVD called “Fly-Fishing Sun Valley, Idaho: A Season on Silver Creek and The Big Wood River”. He also served as head boys’ JV basketball coach at St. George’s High School from 1997 to 2001. John has been Valley’s head girls’ basketball coach since 2004 and has a record of 130-39. He was named the West Valley League’s Coach of the Year in the ’06-’07, ’07-’08, and ’08-‘09 seasons, leading his teams to back-to-back-to-back WVL league and district titles, an OSAA State Tournament 2nd place in 2007, a 3rd place in 2008, and a 4th place in 2009.
