Joe Bernard, who has served as Valley Catholic's College Counselor since 2000, earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon and a Master’s in Student Personnel Counseling from the University of Portland. With more than 20 years of college counseling experience, he is Oregon’s first school-based Certified Educational Planner, the highest professional credential possible for College Counselors. Joe chairs the Portland National College fair, serves on the executive board of both the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners and the Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling and serves on the University of Arizona Admissions Advisory board. He is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and holds a charter membership in the Higher Educational Consultants Association, for which he served as Vice President for six years. Joe served as an admissions officer at the University of Portland for seven years, established the Northwest Spring College Fairs in Portland and Seattle, and taught a graduate-level college counseling course for Lewis and Clark for a number of years. He enjoys his family’s multiple activities and spending time outdoors, camping, biking, water skiing, scuba diving, gardening, and marveling at God's creations.
