Herb Lommen has taught Middle and High School Health and Physical Education at Valley Catholic since the fall of 1991, when he joined the school with the first freshman class of boys. He is also head High School track and field coach. He has served as varsity girls and boys soccer coach, coached CYO basketball and track, and was CYO Director for 15 years. Herb earned a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Pacific University, a Graduate Degree in Outdoor Education from the University of Adelaide, and a Master’s Degree in Human Sports Performance from Portland State. Before coming to Valley, Herb taught at Warrenton Grade School and for fifteen years in Adelaide, South Australia, where he co-produced health texts for grades 8-10. He has coached track and field for 36 years, basketball for 18, soccer for 15, cross country for 8, and football for 3. In 2000 he was honored with the Athletic Director’s Spirit of CYO Award and in 2008 was named West Valley Girls Track Coach of the Year. In 2007 he was inducted into his High School Hall of Fame.
